Be That Change. Make That Difference

There are several ways you could help the rehabilitation and well-being of our prisoners in the UK.
Key4Life
One way is through the amazing work Key4Life does with young people.

Key4Life helps “build resilience and unlock negative behaviours through a powerful blend of music, football, equine therapy, NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) and emotional release sessions” through rehabilitation programs.
They work through a 7-stage program in their two main programmes:

Exiting the programmes the participants are “four times more likely to be employed, a year after their release, than their peers” (Key4Life 2022)
The money spent on the ‘At Risk’ programme “outweighs the cost of putting the young men through prison and all other related costs (police, courts etc)” (Key4Life 2022)

Mentoring

You may still be thinking well, how can I get involved?
By becoming a mentor for Key4Life you can serve as possibly the first active role model for these young people. To ensure you can have the biggest impact, you would go through a matching process and receive intensive training. You’ll be helping to reduce the reoffending rate in young people and help them turn their life around. To find out more click here

Be the person who is open to change because without it, the UK workforce cannot be sustained. Give people the opportunity to succeed by not discriminating and assisting them in reaching their goals. Because you might change that one individual's life.
For some people, leaving prison is a frightening experience and employers who refuse to recruit people who have just left the Criminal Justice System are not helping.
According to 2010 CIPD survey “only 12% of employers had employed somebody with a criminal record in the previous three years”, (Coates 2016) although this was taken in 2010 that is astonishing. There is this stereotypical opinion that exists within society that ex-offenders are lazy and fail to get jobs but how can they when one in five employers (19%) had “deliberately excluded those with a criminal record when recruiting” (Coates 2016).
In order to accomplish the four SDG’s, I have spoken about in these two blogs we need to work together because without one the others will fail.
